The new version of the public information portal of the Czech Ministry of Finance was launched in May 2013. It is a result of the three-year-long MF Portal Optimization and Upgrade project with the objective to modernize selected online communication channels of the Ministry and thus facilitate orientation to the end users in the continuously expanding content, published electronically.

In addition to changing the user interface of the main information portal, the project mainly included the upgrade of the uniform editing environment of the Ministry that the Ministry also uses for the needs of its Intranet, and the modernization of portals for State Savings Bonds, National Treasury and so on. The technological upgrade not only included a transformation to the new software version, but also implementation and modification of a whole range of modules that provide or facilitate content management through a large number of internal editors, as well as content management in other than web formats.

ilustrationReplacement of an internal storage system was a fundamental change within the aforementioned technological upgrade that allowed a modern solution of storing various file formats in a structural and central way. The solution ensures adherence to the uniform naming convention of documents, their versions and archiving, and it connects documents with the web content offered to portal visitors using a sophisticated tag database. A complete integration with the editing environment preserves the current processes of content approval and a uniform authorization and authentication of internal users.

The content migration was a separate chapter of the entire optimization of the Ministry’s public information portal. There had been a large increase in the volume of published electronic content over the years, as well as changes in the topics and introductions of new ones. Therefore, the project team of internal and external experts prepared a brand new view of the offered content and designed a new information architecture and navigation structures and then spent months migrating thousands of documents from one structure to the other so that the access to the required information by the end user, that is the portal visitor, would be as simple and fast as possible.
